FAQ: What is the difference between Autoranging in Meter View and Seamless measurement ranging in Scope and Data Logger View?

The Auto box in the Meter Properties screen actually does not enable seamless autoranging. Seamless autoranging does not make sense in Meter View because the measurement is an averaged value. When you check the Auto box, the instrument simply selects the best measurement range for the amplitude of the measurement. This Meter View function has no effect on Scope or Data Logger measurements. There are no corresponding SCPI commands to enable Auto range selection in Meter View.

Seamless autoranging only applies to digitizing measurements (Scope View and Data Logging). The SCPI SENS:CURR:RANG:AUTO and SENS:VOLT:RANG:AUTO commands enable this function. To enable seamless autoranging using the front panel, select Scope View > Properties, then select “Auto” for the Voltage and Current options in the top right portion of the window (see screenshot). This also applies in the Data Logger Properties window.
